Monday, March 1: Raptor Survey Route Birding & Habitat Description For the past three winters we’ve been counting raptors along a 27.5-mile route from Loleta to Ferndale. Now we need to characterize the habitats along the route to evaluate patterns of habitat use by the raptors. This will involve stopping every half mile and deciding the category of the dominant habitat on each side of the road, birding as we go. Meet project coordinator, Ken Burton (825-1124), at the first pullout on Ranch Road, just west of Highway 101 at the Hookton Road exit, at 8:00 a.m. for this all-day trip.
Winter Raptor Counts: This winter's Loleta-Ferndale raptor counts will not be prescheduled; they will be conducted opportunistically based on weather and the coordinator's availability. If you want to participate, contact Ken Burton, brdnrd@sbcglobal.net or 825-1124 to be notified when dates are decided.
