December 1998

by Hal Genger

Hello everyone, and welcome to the last edition of the Sandpiper in 1998! This has been a great year and many things are in the works for the new year. Jude Power has done a marvelous job with scholarships and will ask for new proposals in the January issue. Thanks Jude! Tom Leskiw, Greg and Kristin Schmidt, and many more Audubon birders have done a great job with the Breeding Bird Atlas, and will soon start gearing up for next year’s effort. Thanks to all of you! Elyse Kelly is doing a fantastic job with the field trips and I’m looking forward to the ones she has in store for us next year. Jim Clark is keeping the conservation committee rolling, and is still seeking individuals to fill board of directors positions. If you are interested, give him a call. Thanks Jim. Ron LeValley keeps coming up with great speakers for our general meetings and I am looking forward to brushing up on bird identification in the next one! Good work Ron! RRAS is still in need of someone to work on International Issues, membership recruitment, and/or welcoming new members. If you are interested please get in touch with me.

Audubon~California Legislative Affairs will have a meeting Dec. 18 at the California Field Office in Sacramento. They will discuss next year’s priorities. Priority #2: California’s Symbolic Landscape Campaigns. which include: The City, The Farm, and Wild California. I’ll write more as new information arrives.

See you next year!
