My name is Elias. I'm beginning my seventh year of involvement with this board. A few weeks ago I assumed my role as president.
Our Annual Banquet served as our members meeting last month. The ninety people who gathered at the Elk's Lodge had fun socializing and we had a lucrative fundraiser. The auctions alone netted us $2,200. So thanks go to the businesses who donated the items and to the folks who snapped up the booty. I'll update you further after next board meeting.
National Audubon has been talking for some years about the need to create a culture of conservation. I say to a large extent this culture has been made. Rob Hewitt, Stan Harris, Suzie Bulger, Jim Tietz, David Fix and Jude Power are just a few of the amazing forces we have on our side locally. In spite of the fact that we have many good people in this area we must not be content with what we have. We need to welcome more people into this culture. As a chapter, our strongest point is our ability to introduce beginners to birds. The way to do that is through more field trips. Please join us on one or two.
In testament to this culture of conservation, we purchased our first 300 acres. Currently we are working on transferring this valuable parcel to a federal agency. We hope to make more such purchases in the future. So please become active. Your donations of time or money are welcome anytime. Please call Elias at 826-2758.
