President's Column
by Hal Genger

Hello everyone and welcome to another issue of
the Sandpiper. Redwood Region Audubon Society is proud of the
many activities it generates. In this issue, I'd like to review
what we offer to the general public in terms of field trips.
Every Saturday morning for decades, we have
led docent walks at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary.
These walks are for the beginning toadvanced birder and cover
topics from birds and natural history to waste water treatment.
Walks last a few hours and are often composed of all age groups,
and will often experience all types of weather! Bring your
friends and family and join us! (See Field Trips for more info)
For the past few years, Jude Power and David
Fix have led trips the second Sunday of the month (Oct-April) at
the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge. These trips are also
open to all age groups and all levels of experience! (See Field
Trips for more info)
We also organize longer trips. We have
traveled to Klamath Lake to view waterfowl and hundreds of Bald
Eagles. We have also visited Wildlife Areas in the Sacramento
Valley.
Recently RRAS offered two pelagic trips out of
Humboldt Bay which were very successful (see elsewhere in this
issue), and we will continue to do so at an affordable price.
Often we offer local trips to see other
creatures such as our reptile-and-amphibian trip or our butterfly
watching trip.
I really enjoy going out into nature to look
and listen, and this column is a partial thanks to all of those
people who help make it possible!
Please call me if you have any suggestions for
field trips.
