Redwood Region Audubon is concerned about the potential impacts of the proposed wind farm on birds and the ecology of the area, and submitted a letter opposing the proposed project.
The Planning Commission voted against approving the project, and Terra-Gen is now seeking approval from the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors. A special hearing will be held Monday, December 16, 9:00 am at the Adornia Center.

Terra-Gen is proposing the development of a wind farm on Bear River Ridge and Monument Ridge above Scotia. The Humboldt Wind Project includes 47 turbines which would be built on the Russ Ranch, and on property owned by the Humboldt Redwood Company.
Birds which use the area include both golden and bald eagles as well as other raptors. Western meadowlark and other blackbirds, and sparrows, including dark-eyed juncos are also present in large numbers. Condors are likely to use the area once they are introduced in this area.
